Permanent Residence

I'm thinking about applying for PR this year and I will probably try to do this in Kuching as it would give me the best range of options for where I can live in Malaysia in future (currently I am based in KL but we may want to move to Kuching in future).

I found some info on the web about applying and it seems like I should be eligible based on my current length of stay and my wife being Malaysian (from Sarawak).

Does anyone have any experience of applying for PR and any advice?

Hi Shardy,

No personal experience applying for PR in Msia, but I heard from a couple of acquaintances who got it that once you've been married for 5 years to your Malaysian wife, and stayed those 5 years in Malaysia, you have a good shot at getting it. That's how they got theirs. Not sure how applying in a different city than the one you're working/living in could impact your application though.

Also, should the process be similar to the one in SG, be prepared to ask your family for updated CVs even though it's not required in the application forms.

Good luck!

By family I mean parents, and brothers/sisters.
Once PR they could be entitled to dependent visas in Malaysia under certain conditions. Once again, if it's the same as SG Yes 3

A good resource I found on the subject: How to Get Permanent Residency (PR) in Malaysia: Part 1

Good luck!

Thanks that looks useful - the list of trips out of Malaysia in last 6 years will be a pain to collate!

Well I rules out applying in Sarawak as I'd have to start again with LTSVP over there first and then stay there for years before being eligible for PR. So I'm applying for PR in KL now - will add a new thread on this.
