PAS Youth Wing head, Nasrudin Hassan has commented that New Year Celebrations and Valentine's Day celebrations are contributing to the high rates of baby dumping during the months of July to September in the Star recently (http://bit.ly/a0WjVm). In his view, "Western" celebrations expose the Malaysian youths to indecent sexual behaviour.
I guess he should have checked his calendar before going on record. Babies usually arrive after nine months, and in my calendar, the public holiday season at the end of September 2009 in Malaysia was not New Year or Valentines' day...
hi,
If normal folks were in charge there would be an IQ test for all political appointments.

Unfortunately, as US Senator Mark Pryor clearly explained in the very good Religulous:
"You don't need to pass an IQ test to be in the senate".
hi,
I guess some folks have never learnt that silence is not only golden but it's often wise.
There's the old adage that if you keep quiet then no-one knows if you're smart or stupid. But once you open your mouth you prove it either way.
As a forum admin like yourself I'm always aware of the nature of an open public forum. It's inclusive of everyone.
What cracks me up is that in the middle of a considered discussion there'll be the member that decides the whole internet world needs to urgently know how to pick your nose, or needs to learn that they aren't feeling so good today. Forum or therapy?
Jeez, what to do with these wallys? If anyone mentions that they could be wasting everyone's time & webspace they start shouting about "freedom of speech."
Pity that there isn't the need for an IQ (Internet Qualified) test to join a forum. Hmmmmmmm . . . come to think of it.
It could be based on the ability of people to piss others off using politicians as a reference point.

Another adage I like is this one “Do not speak unless you can improve the silence”
Unfortunately you can't expect that from a politician.
Like you, I believe forums should be fair headed and always welcome discussion.
Now, are they for every one? Maybe not. Everyone is welcome, sure. But I believe that communities find their own voice after a while. You will always have people and members with different opinions, but if they keep coming to a forum, it is because they find something there that they like or associate with. Put another way, most successful communities have some thing(s) in common; it can be dead simple (food, clothing, etc.) to the more serious (religion, values, etc.). Their members will tend to come back if they share these thing(s). Those who don't will simply come and go.
It is rare that someone who don't share the views of the community keep on coming back - though you have the rare exception, usually known as trolls, that some may know of
It seems that every article that opens with something about the "youth wing" of any Malaysian political party, somewhere includes a quote that is so sickeningly offensive that it makes me want to get on the next plane out of the country.
