Entering Malaysia for a visit

Please note that your airline may require you to have an onward or return ticket before boarding your flight to Malaysia, unless you have a work visa, residency status, or a Malaysian passport.

The information below applies to visits for the purpose of tourism, visiting friends or relatives, or short term business meetings. If you are taking up employment or studying in Malaysia, the requirements may differ, and you should check the Malaysia Immigration and visa page, or contact your nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate.

If your passport is from one of the following countries, you do not need a visa for a stay of up to three months:

If your passport or travel document is from one of the following countries, you do not need a visa for a stay of up to two weeks:

  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Libya
  • Macao (Travel Permit/Portugal CI)
  • Palestine
  • Sierra Leone
  • Somalia
  • Syria

If your passport is from one of the following countries, you must obtain a visa before you can travel to Malaysia:

  • Afghanistan
  • Angola
  • Bangladesh
  • Bhutan
  • Burkina Faso
  • Burundi
  • Cameroon
  • Central African Republic
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Comoros
  • Congo Democratic Republic
  • Congo Republic

Serbian passport holders require special permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs to enter Malaysia.
Israeli passport holders require special permission from the Ministry of Internal Security to enter Malaysia.
All other passport holders, including Hong Kong SAR and citizens of ASEAN nations (except Myanmar), may enter Malaysia without a visa for a stay of up to one month.
