Malaysia Permanent Residency (PR)

The Malaysia Permanent Residency visa grants entry rights in Malaysia for life to its holder.

It is very difficult to obtain, and there are no clear guidelines on how to proceed so as to ensure a successful application.

What is confirmed is that, unless an applicant invest a minimum of USD 2 million in a fixed deposit in Malaysia, or have an expertise, talent and Skills recognised as "World Class" by any International Organisation (and Malaysia's immigration department), he must haved lived in Malaysia for a continuous period of more than five years under a valid Entry Permit before he can submit his application for a permanent resident status.

PR Application Process

The applicant can go to his nearest "pass and permit division" of his state immigration office with the following documents and request for a PR application. It is recommended he go with a local, who can help convince the immigration agent to release the application papers.

The following documents are standards to all PR applications:

  • Form IMM. 4 (permanent resident application)
  • Copy of ID and passport of applicant over the past five years (all pages)
  • 2 passport photo of the applicant
  • 2 passport photo of the applicant's local sponsor

A few months after submitting his application, he will be contacted by the police department for an interview.

He will then have to wait for the results of his application. They should be delivered by mail.

It is customary for the first application to be rejected, so the applicant should be ready to submit his application several times in order to stand a chance to obtain a permanent resident of Malaysia visa.
